Speaker:
Chris Eppolito, Binghamton University
Topic:
"Hopf algebras of Matroids"
Abstract:
Hopf algebras and matroids are mathematical objects which arise naturally in various areas of mathematics. A construction of Schmitt brings these two ubiquitous objects together in the matroid-minor Hopf algebra. We focus on this and related constructions of Hopf algebras from classes of matroids, and study the properties of these algebras. This talk is largely expository; time permitting, we will survey recent results on Hopf algebras of matroids.
