Algebra Seminar

Speaker:
Margarita Bustos Gonzalez
Topic:
Expository on Sheaves and Schemes

Abstract:

Sheaves and schemes are important in many areas of mathematics. For instance, we see them mentioned in algebra, number theory, topology, and analysis. In this talk, we will give a brief introduction to sheaves and schemes. We will begin with introducing presheaves and give an equivalent definition using category theory. Then we will continue with sheaves and stalks. Furthermore, we will discuss schemes, and some of its properties. Time permitting, we will try to discuss sheaves of modules. This expository talk will have several examples in hopes to make this topic much more tangible and concrete.
