AMCS SEMINAR - Wayne Polyzu

Speaker:
Wayne Polyzou, Dept. of Physics and Astronomy
Topic:
Using Path Integrals to Compute Scattering Observables

Abstract:  Palle Jorgensen and Ekaterina Nathanson (former Iowa mathematics Ph.D.)
introduced a new interpretation of Feynman's famous path integral as the
expectation of a functional on a space of paths with respect to a
complex probability.  This new way of thinking about the path integral
has practical computational consequences which may provide a new tool
for solving some difficult problems in physics.   I will discuss some
preliminary work to apply this method to scattering problems, potential
future applications and some opportunities for AMCS students.
