Differential Geometry Seminar

Speaker:
James Dibble
Topic:
Collapsing and the Cheeger-Gromov compactness theorem

Abstract:
Basic facts about collapsing of Riemannian manifolds will be discussed, along with the Cheeger-Gromov compactness theorem, a consequence of which is that there are only finitely many diffeomorphism classes of compact manifolds that admit Riemannian metrics with fixed bounds on diameter from above, volume from below, and sectional curvature from both sides.
