GAUSS Seminar

Speaker:
Adam Wood
Topic:
Trees, Strings, and Representation Theory

Abstract:
Brauer trees are graphs which arise naturally in the context of the representation theory of finite groups over fields of prime characteristic. In this talk, we provide a brief introduction to representation theory. We then describe Brauer trees, Brauer tree algebras, and string modules. We explore these structures and make connections to representation theory and current research. This talk is self-contained; an introductory algebra background would be helpful.
