Abstract: Topological Data Analysis is a unique method of analyzing data that seeks, in some sense, to uncover the "shape" of a dataset. Using biological data as a motivating example, I will introduce some basic ideas of algebraic topology (using mostly pictures!) and discuss how we can use these ideas to analyze data. We'll also look at some applications of these techniques on real data from biology. No topology or biology background will be assumed, so everyone is welcome!
