Topic:
"Real Division Algebras Aren't All That Complex"
Abstract: In this talk we will state and sketch a proof of the Frobenius Theorem, which provides a classification of all of the finite dimensional real division algebras, and the list is shorter than you might expect! Along the way we'll define what exactly a real division algebra is, and we'll also encounter some famous results, including the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra and the Cayley-Hamilton Theorem. The talk will be self contained, so anyone with a basic knowledge of linear algebra (vector spaces and linear transformations) should be able to follow along.
