Speaker 1: Dynamics of COVID-19 under vaccination. Speaker 2: The effect of terazosin on the PGK1 step of glycolysis.

Abstract:

Victoria Valdez:  The vaccination strategy against COVID-19 in most countries was by age in descending order. In this study, different vaccination strategies against the SARS-Cov-2 virus were compared, with the aim of deciding which is the best, in terms of minimizing the total number of deaths. While the older class is at higher risk of death, the high-mobility class (mostly young adults) is at higher risk of becoming infected. Who should get vaccinated first?

Mitchell Riley:  In this talk we will do a brief overview of the drug terazosin, what it does, and its role in the PGK1 step of glycolysis. We use differential equations to model the concentration of each configuration in the PGK1 step and implement terazosin in this scheme. From this we determine how terazosin exudes its biphasic dose response, or non-monotone dose dependence, via a mechanism which is sometimes called competitive inhibitor stimulation.
