Phases for Two-leg Rydberg Ladders

Abstract:

Quantum processing units (QPUs) based on configurable arrays of Rydberg atoms (CARA) are a powerful emerging technology. Understanding the properties of CARA will allow us to better optimize this technology and apply it to a wider range of problems. A simple but interesting CARA that is not well understood is the two-leg Rydberg ladder. I utilize three distinct methods to find the ground states of two-leg Rydberg ladders for small system sizes. I show how the ground states change as a function the number of rungs, aspect ratio, and Hamiltonian parameters. I explore the properties and applications of two-leg Rydberg ladders for larger system sizes.
