Topic:
Spacetime Symmetry Breaking: Thomas-Whitehead Gravity
Abstract:
The low energy limit of the dimensionally reduced Thomas-Whitehead theory of gravity has been shown to reproduce Einstein's General Relativity. Here it is discussed, the possibility of describing this process via a spontaneous breaking of symmetry. The Goldstone fields are identified and the unessential modes eliminated by imposing Inverse Higgs Constraints on the Cartan form of the coset space. The essential role of the projectively invariant and tensorial Diffeomorphism field as either Goldstone or gravitational Higgs field is also discussed. Finally, the coupling to fermions is reframed in the present formalism.
