Abstract:
An axiomatic treatment of II$_1$ factors within the context of continuous logic was successfully developed Farah, Hart, and Sherman. I will discuss some obstacles and possible approaches to finding a good axiomatization for more general classes of von Neumann algebras. This is based on work in progress with Bradd Hart.
