College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
Majors & Minor
The Math Department offers several degree options for students. Students may earn either a B.A. or a B.S. degree by completing one of three programs: Program A (for students who plan to work in industry or government or to pursue graduate study in mathematics); Program B (for students seeking certification for secondary teaching); or Program C (mathematics with specialization in a math-related area).
A B.A. degree typically requires eleven (11) courses, and a B.S. degree usually requires thirteen (13) courses. Each program in the major has a core of several required courses, followed by choices for electives. Requirements for completing a major are found on the BS/BA Program page.
Students may also complete a minor is in mathematics by completing a minimum of fifteen (15) credit hours. Additional details, including courses required, are on the Minor page.
The Department of Mathematics is part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), so mathematics majors need to meet CLAS requirements as spelled out in the University Catalog.
