Final Exam Info

Final exam review: Saturday 11am - 1pm in MLH 113

Final Exam week office hours:
Dr. Darcy: Monday 11am - 12noon, Wednesay 2-3pm, Thursday 1:30pm - 4pm, and by appointment.

If you are in the MWF 8:30am section AAA, your exam is Monday, December 12, 7:30 - 9:30am in 1505 SC (NOTE LOCATION)

If you are in the MWF 9:30am section BBB, your exam is Friday, December 16, 7:30 - 9:30am in W151 PBB (NOTE LOCATION)

During the Saturday review, we covered questions from 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 including noting that it is much easer to compute volume using shells in some circumstances and washers in others (in other words, if you are given a choice on the exam, make sure you make the right choice). We also discussed some of the major theorems including their applications: IVT, EVT, MVT, FTC. The applications included determining bounds on functions and number of roots. We noted that FTC1 implies that the derivative of a definite integral w.r.t. its upper limit is the integrand evaluated at the upper limit (this is similar to the derivative of an anti-derivative gives you the original funtion-- see p. 296). We also noted the FTC2 tells us how to calculate a definite integral using anti-derivatives. In other words, FTC tells us that derivative and anti-derivatives are in some sense opposite functions (except not 1:1) and FTC relates the anti-derivative to the integral (notation-wise). We also did a couple of problems from 4.4 (l'hospital) and one from 4.7 (optimization).

The final exam will consist of 3 parts:

Part A: There will most likely be 6 problems (some with multiple parts, one very short) worth a total of 60 points. Recall these will mostly be from sections 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, chain rule, limits, integration by substitution, graphing (4.5).
Part B: Choose 4 out of 5 or do all 5 for five points extra credit. These problems can be from any of the sections that we covered.
Part C: Proofs (completely optional)

A portion of the exam is posted below (but no questions from the exam, just wording relating to what is required versus optional).

Make-up exam 2 info

Make-up exam 2 is this Tuesday 12/6 in your discussion section.

Make-up exam 2 will cover the same material as exam 2, but will focus on word problems. Hence there will be one problem from 3.10, one from 4.7, and two more problems which will come from any of the following sections: 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, 3.10, 3.11, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.7.
