Title: Amenability in Groups and Von Neumann Algebras.

Abstract: Von Neumann first introduced the concept of amenable groups in 1929 to explain the Banach–Tarski paradox. In this talk, I will survey the basics of the notion of amenability in the context of groups and von Neumann algebras.

Professor Ding is giving a colloquium talk

Amenability, boundaries and von Neumann algebras

at 3:30pm-4:20pm in the same day of this talk and you are welcome to attend.
