Computation in the 21st century has joined theory and experiment as one of the three pillars of science and technology.  Computational mathematics is the heart of modern computer simulation and machine learning.  The computational mathematics group at the University of Iowa began with Kendall Atkinson in 1972.   Since then, the group has grown and has continued this tradition of creating, preserving, and disseminating knowledge of computational methods and their mathematical analyses.  Current members maintain the culture of bringing firm mathematical foundations to our computational work across STEM disciplines.  We apply a wide array of approaches, such as differential equations, optimization, and matrix computations, to a broad range of problems in science, engineering, and biomedicine.
