Mathematics Special Lecture - Dan Ursu; York University

Title: Machinery used in studying dynamical operator algebras

Abstract: This informal talk presents an optional counterpart to the colloquium that will take place on March 12. The colloquium itself will focus on the basics of operator algebras arising out of groups and dynamics in a self-contained manner, and present some recent results obtained by me and other coauthors from the last 2-3 years on the topic.

In contrast, this informal talk will focus more on some of the machinery behind these results, which often sees many applications in many areas of operator algebras and other parts of mathematics, and is quite interesting in studying in its own right. Topics include amenability of groups and injective envelopes of operator algebras.

In conjecture with this special lecture, Professor Ursu is also the colloquium speaker that day at 3:30pm at 118MHL.
