The group in mathematical physics works closely with several colleagues in the UI Department of Physics and together we hold the longest-running interdisciplinary seminar in the college.

Much of our work is in group representation theory and its application to quantum mechanics. There is also a substantial interaction between the mathematical physics and the operator theory/operator algebra group. Of special interest in recent years have been problems relating to the mathematics of quantum stochastic processes in general, and in the mathematics of quantum computing.
